Junior Kira Garry ran a personal best of 7:00.5 for the 2,000m. steeplechase in a field of 35 runners at the New Balance Nationals finishing 5th and earning All-American honors. Garry competed against nationally ranked runners. Click here to see official video footage of the race. Girls track team set records, earn distinguished honorsJunior Kira Garry finished 3rd in the 2000m. steeplechase (NY state division II) receiving All-State honors. She will go on to compete at Nationals next week in Greensboro, North Carolina. The 4 X 800 m. relay team of freshmen Molly Sullivan and Domenica Lostritto, and juniors Amanda Lamothe and Kira Garry, finished 16th in Division II. Molly Sullivan finished 18th in the 800m. running a personal record of 2:23. Kira Garry was also recognized in a NY State Sportsmanship Award ceremony at the meet. She received the award for Nassau County Division II girls.
Friends lacrosse captain to play in NY Empire Lacrosse Final 50; one of county's top 25 
Bryan Judge ('11) has been selected as one of 25 players to represent Nassau County in the New York Empire Lacrosse Final 50 game to be played at Veterans Park in East Northport against 25 similarly selected players from Suffolk County. Bryan is a defenseman for Friends, a 2010 All County player, and will be a two-year captain for the Quakers next season.
Tennis doubles team turn in stellar performance at state championship
The FA tennis doubles team competed in the NY state HS Tennis Championships at the National Tennis Center. They won their first round over the city champs from Cardozo HS 4-6 6-2-6-1 then lost in the 2nd round against the eventual State champs from Byram Hills 6-4 7-5. This is the second year that this doubles team has made ALL State honors in tennis.
Six FA runners qualify for NY State track meet
Six runners have qualified for the New York State track meet in the 800m, 3,000m and 2,000m steeplechase, as well as the 4X800m relay run team, who won with a season best time of 10:02.
Boys Varsity Baseball team wins LI championship
Congratulations to the Boys Varsity Baseball team after they captured the Nassau County Class C baseball championship after defeating Mercy HS, 7-2. FA's pitcher pitched a complete game victory going the full 7 innings. The infield team turned key double plays in both the first and second innings to break up Mercy rallies. And a third-inning grand slam by FA cemented the win for the Quakers. Quarterfinals are Tuesday, June 8 and semifinals and the championship game are Saturday, June 12 in Binghampton, NY.
Girls Varsity Crew team earns state Scholar-Athlete award 2 years in a row
For the second consecutive year, the FA Girls Varsity Team has won the New York State Rowing Scholar/Athlete Award. The award is open to scholastic rowers from grades 10-12. The cumulative academic average must be above a 90 for each rower's high school career.
Girls Quadruple Scull crowned national champions with 6.5-second lead
Two crews of six rowers qualified to attend the Scholastic Rowing National Championships this weekend in Saratoga Springs, NY. While facing
the top competition from across the country both boats raced their way to the
Grand Finals.
The Boys
Double Sculls pulled in an exciting
sprint placing just 6 6/100s of a second above the Conestoga crew that beat
them two weeks ago in Philadelphia. This earned them 5th place. The Girls
Quadruple Scull took control of the competition early on by qualifying with a time
that was more than 10 seconds faster than the next crew. The Grand Finals proved to be
more competitive but the Friends Crew was able to maintain a commanding 6.5-second lead to earn their title as 2010 National Champions!
This is
Friends Academy's 6th National Championship in its 21 years of rowing. This success
marks the first time FA girls have won a national championship in a team boat,
and the first time for FA to win a quad event of any type since 1991.
Girls Golf team wins Sportsmanship Award 2nd year in a row; finishes 2nd in division

For the second consecutive year, the FA Girls Golf team has earned the Nassau County Sportsmanship Award. With a successful 8-2 record, the team finished second place in their division. "This was quite an accomplishment due to the youthful new members on our team," said coach Gail Baker. "Overall this season, there was a great deal of hard work and determination in the program, which will continue in the seasons to come. I am very proud of the girls for winning the sportsmanship award for the second year in a row," added Baker.
Track team battles heat with great results
Despite some heated conditions, FA athletes ran some of their best performances in the Nassau County class A Track and Field Championships. In addition, the Girls track team finished 5th overall, out of 19 total teams.
Wednesday, May 26 county championship results:
- 2nd place: Steeplechase
- 2nd place: 4 X 800m.
- 4th place: 200m. final
- 6th place: 1600m. boys
Tuesday, May 25 county championship results:
- 2nd place: 3000m.
- 5th place: 800m.
- 6th place: 3200m.
- 8th place: 4 X 400m. relay
All of the athletes who placed hope to go on to the State Qualifier week next week on Tuesday, June 1 and Wednesday, June 2. FA Rower invited to USRowing Junior National Team
A Friends Academy sophomore rower has received an invitation to the USRowing Junior National Team Selection Camp this summer. Selection camp is limited to the top 24 female scullers in the country with the purpose to select the top 7 to represent the USA at the Junior World Championships in August in Racice, Czech Republic.
Last year, alumnus Nicole Bielawski '09 received this honor, and ultimately represented the US Team in the single scull at the World Championships in Brieve, France. This is the first time FA Crew has been invited two years in a row.
Boys Varsity Tennis Doubles advances to state championship
Friends Academy will send one of three doubles representing Nassau County at the NY State HS Tennis Championships on June, 3, 4, and 5 at the National Tennis Center in Flushing Meadows, NY.
At the Nassau County Individual Championships held at Oceanside HS on May 15 and 16, the Friends doubles team finished second out of 48 teams and guaranteed them All-state Honors.
Nassau County has been recognized as the top tennis section in the state, so this is a tremendous accomplishment. It is also the highest finish in FA history. Last year, Friends qualified for states by finishing third at the Nassau County Championships and third in the state as an unseeded team.
"I look forward to continuing to build our tennis program and put Friends Academy in the minds of as many people as possible," said coach Brian Baxter. "This doubles team work extremely well together and will represent FA with great honor and class," he added.
